That was the clear message voiced by representatives of Ukraine\u2019s leading construction companies during a roundtable with the EdUP project team.<\/strong> <b>They formally requested support in addressing this need.<\/b><\/p><p data-start=\"505\" data-end=\"794\">Their reasoning was straightforward: in today\u2019s labor market, retaining skilled workers \u2014 especially young ones \u2014 is increasingly critical. Workplace mentorship has proven to be a powerful tool for onboarding new employees, supporting professional development, and reducing staff turnover.<\/p><p data-start=\"796\" data-end=\"1140\">The relevance of the topic was further confirmed by the study <em data-start=\"858\" data-end=\"935\">\u201cAnalysis of Vocational and Practical Training in Construction Professions\u201d<\/em>, commissioned by the EdUP project in response to business demand. The research revealed key challenges in transferring practical skills on the job \u2014 including the lack of trained mentors within companies.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-9173737 dce_masking-none elementor-widget elementor-widget-image\" data-id=\"9173737\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"image.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<figure class=\"wp-caption\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" src=\"https:\/\/www.edup.org.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/dsc_7777-1024x683.jpg\" class=\"attachment-large size-large wp-image-17451\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.edup.org.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/dsc_7777-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.edup.org.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/dsc_7777-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.edup.org.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/dsc_7777-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.edup.org.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/dsc_7777-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/www.edup.org.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/dsc_7777-2048x1365.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<figcaption class=\"widget-image-caption wp-caption-text\">EdUP Project Roundtable with Private Sector Partners<\/figcaption>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/figure>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-f565ef4 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"f565ef4\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h3 data-start=\"1147\" data-end=\"1209\">Co-Creating a Mentorship Development Program with Business<\/h3><p data-start=\"1211\" data-end=\"1527\">In response, the EdUP project designed and implemented a pilot Mentorship Development Program in collaboration with seven companies \u2014 including Swiss-based GLAS TR\u00d6SCH, as well as ZS Auto Center LLC, Vetropack Group, Herz Ukraine LLC, IBK Development LLC, IVIK Engineering and Technical Center LLC, and Kapitel LLC.<\/p><p data-start=\"1529\" data-end=\"1654\">Representatives from these businesses participated in a training program designed to prepare them for their roles as mentors.<\/p><hr data-start=\"1656\" data-end=\"1659\" \/><h3 data-start=\"1661\" data-end=\"1708\">The Program Was Structured in Three Phases:<\/h3><h4 data-start=\"1710\" data-end=\"1758\"><strong data-start=\"1715\" data-end=\"1758\">Phase I: The Fundamentals of Mentorship<\/strong><\/h4><p data-start=\"1759\" data-end=\"2204\">This stage focused on building a strong foundation: understanding the mentor\u2019s role, adult learning principles, the specifics of vocational education, and developing a personal mentorship style.<br data-start=\"1953\" data-end=\"1956\" \/>The training was led by Emanuel W\u00fcthrich, an expert from the Swiss Federal University for Vocational Education and Training (SFUVET). But when there\u2019s someone by your side who supports, teaches, motivates, and gives constructive feedback \u2014 the process becomes much smoother and more effective.\n\nThis course gave me an important insight: in business, the most important thing is people \u2014 those who work in it, and those for whom it works.\n\nI\u2019m proud to be part of a team of professionals who love what they do and truly understand its value.\u201d\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-q-footer\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<cite class=\"elementor-blockquote__author\">Olena Hryb, entrepreneur<\/cite>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/blockquote>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-30dd219 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"30dd219\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h5 data-start=\"3202\" data-end=\"3355\"><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>This program is unique among Swisscontact initiatives \u2014 developed hand-in-hand with businesses to ensure the content is aligned with real industry needs.<\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-a2d6970 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"a2d6970\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h3 data-start=\"3362\" data-end=\"3408\">What\u2019s Next: From Pilot to Systemic Change<\/h3><p data-start=\"3410\" data-end=\"3603\">Based on the pilot results, EdUP is now developing a universal mentorship training program, along with a practical handbook summarizing key concepts and tools for effective workplace mentoring.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-098715d elementor-blockquote--skin-border elementor-blockquote--button-color-official elementor-widget elementor-widget-blockquote\" data-id=\"098715d\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"blockquote.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<blockquote class=\"elementor-blockquote\">\n\t\t\t<p class=\"elementor-blockquote__content\">\n\t\t\t\t\u201cI\u2019m really glad I was able to attend this training. I\u2019m taking away a ton of practical cases and ideas I can apply in my work.
