EdUP Expands Hands-On Training for VET Teachers

As part of its ongoing efforts to modernize vocational education in Ukraine, the EdUP project continues to expand training opportunities for vocational teachers. This approach was recently demonstrated at the Second Practice-Based Conference “Modern Tiling Technologies”, held in Kyiv.

Over two days, 40 teachers and vocational instructors from 22 VET schools across Ukraine enhanced their tiling skills to better train students and meet evolving market demands.

The conference combined theory and hands-on training.

Theoretical sessions covered:

  • surface preparation;

  • straight-joint tile installation techniques;

  • layout methods for glazed tiles;

  • joint filling with cement and epoxy grouts;

  • safety and compliance standards.

During the practical sessions, participants:

  • set up workstations and prepared tools;

  • used modern tile-cutting equipment;

  • applied leveling layers and evaluated surface quality.

“We demonstrated two types of waterproofing for indoor and outdoor use. Both can withstand negative pressure, even in swimming pools. It was a valuable new experience for participants,”
Bohdan Kucheryna, Sika Ukraine Expert

“We tested both waterproofing materials — easy to apply and effective at first glance. I plan to integrate them into student training,”
Oleksandr Livshun, VET Instructor, Vinnytsia

“Working with teachers is key — they shape future professionals. Together, we practiced precision tile cutting and use of various tools and blades,”
Oleksandr Ivaniuk, League of Masters Expert

“A 45° edge cut was a revelation! Even with my experience, this practical insight was something new. This training proved that there’s always room to grow,”
Liubov Kisil, Senior Instructor, Poltava VET School

The conference was made possible through the support of private partners — Sika Ukraine, Distar LTD, Dnipro-M, and UVEX — who provided professional tools, materials, and expert guidance.

This event exemplifies EdUP’s proven training model that blends theory, hands-on learning, and private sector partnership — a powerful formula for improving teacher qualifications and updating vocational education content.

Why it matters:
Modernizing vocational training is key to adapting education to today’s labor market needs. By equipping teachers with up-to-date knowledge and tools, EdUP helps ensure that students learn with current standards and real-world equipment.
