The EdUP project has opened a new shelter in Zaporizhzhia, a city located near the front line. This space serves both as a safe refuge for students and a learning environment.
Thanks to funding from the Swiss government and private partners, as well as support from the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, the shelter was almost entirely rebuilt from the ground up.
EdUP continues to strengthen the infrastructure of vocational education in Ukraine, creating comfortable and safe learning conditions for future professionals.
The 210-square-meter facility has been fully equipped with essential utilities, a fire alarm system, and modern renovations to ensure a comfortable learning environment. Additionally, new functional furniture has been purchased, making the space both convenient and welcoming.
The shelter will not only provide a secure place for students and teachers during air raid alerts but will also serve as a continuous learning space—an essential element for vocational education institutions.
"I am proud to collaborate with the EdUP project, as it provides a strong impetus for the development of vocational education. Our institution participates in this project with two specialties—electrical fitter and electric gas welder—and we see tangible benefits for the education system. Our instructors and students enthusiastically take part in seminars, competitions, and experience exchanges. This opens new opportunities for professional growth and motivates young people to develop their skills."
Oleksandr Baz, Director of Zaporizhzhia Higher Vocational School "Motorobudivnyk"
📍 Special attention has been given to inclusivity: the shelter is equipped with an accessible restroom and a lift for individuals with limited mobility, ensuring equal access to a safe environment for all learners.
It is crucial to remember that during times of war, vocational education becomes even more essential. Skilled workers, particularly in the construction sector, play a key role in rebuilding infrastructure and strengthening Ukraine’s economy.
"We are grateful to the EdUP project for supporting vocational education in Ukraine. This shelter will not only serve as a safe space but also as a place for training future skilled workers who will contribute to rebuilding the country."
Dmytro Zavhorodnii, Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine for Digital Development, Digital Transformation, and Digitalization
