The occupational standard for Concrete Worker has been approved. Developed by the Confederation of Builders of Ukraine in partnership with the EdUP project, the document establishes modern requirements for the profession and provides a foundation for updating educational programmes and training qualified specialists needed for Ukraine’s reconstruction.
The development of the standard was preceded by a broad professional dialogue on the future of the concrete worker profession, organised by the EdUP project.
Participants included representatives of vocational education institutions, businesses, public authorities, and industry experts. During the discussions, participants identified key challenges in training concrete workers, outlined ways to increase the attractiveness of the profession, and emphasized the need for close cooperation between education providers and businesses.
Special attention was also given to ensuring access to workplace-based learning, upskilling teachers and trainers, developing short-term courses for adults, and integrating modern materials and technologies into the training of future professionals.
“Approval of the occupational standard for Concrete Worker is the result of a joint effort and is of strategic importance to all stakeholders involved. For Ukraine, it means a systematic improvement in the quality of skilled workforce training and strengthened competitiveness of the construction sector. For employers, it provides assurance that workers possess clearly defined competencies, transparent qualification requirements, and enables companies to build teams more effectively. For vocational education institutions, it serves as a modern reference point for developing programmes that prepare students in line with real labour market needs and support their employment opportunities.”
